Services

AMTI Engineering Services provides services to government and industry in the following areas:

Thermal Systems: We design and evaluate heating and cooling equipment for residential and commercial applications; combined cooling, heating and power (CHP) systems; burners and other combustion equipment; heat pumps and refrigeration systems; heat exchangers and other devices that operate with thermal energy.

Product Development: Our product development experience spans a variety of markets; consumer products, automated equipment, military, commercial foodservice and other markets.

Engineering Analysis: We provide analytical services to clients in heat transfer, stress analysis, material behavior and fluid mechanics.

Manufacturing Assistance: We provide assistance to our clients in manufacturing their products more efficiently.

Materials: We provide consulting services to our clients on material selection, processing and failure analysis.

Other Services: We also provide consulting services in other areas such as reliability assessment, life testing, and codes and standards.

Thermal and Combustion Systems

We provide our clients with expertise in heat transfer, thermal analysis, burner design and application, appliance development, CHP systems, heat recovery and HVAC system design and development.

Typical projects in this area include:

Residential and commercial boiler design Commercial foodservice equipment
CHP systems Pool and spa heaters
Military field feeding systems Low emission combustion systems
Cryogenic refrigeration Thermoelectric power generation

Our laboratory facilities are well equipped to support this work.  The laboratory can be used to test equipment using a wide range of fuels and heat output levels.  We can prototype systems ranging from a few watts to megawatts.

Product Development

At AMTI, we follow a rigorous product development process on each of our projects.  Some clients ask us to undertake the entire project on a turn-key basis; others ask us to take responsibility for different stages of development.

Our process incorporates several steps.  For a more detailed description of each step, click here.

Engineering Analysis

Engineering analysis is a key part of every design project.  We provide our clients with independent engineering analysis to improve their products and processes.  We also provide analyses of competing products and processes to help our clients benchmark their products in the market place.

We provide our clients with a full range of analytical support from simple handbook and spreadsheet analysis to computerized finite-element methods in heat transfer, fluid mechanics and structural analysis.

Typical projects in this area include:

Flow Analysis in Heat Exchange Systems Thermal Analysis of Smooth-Top Ranges
Thermal-Economic Simulation of Building Combined Heating and Power (BCHP) Systems Absorption Cooling System Modeling

Manufacturing Assistance

Efficient manufacturing is critical for product integrity, cost control and reliability.  Concern for manufacturing efficiency begins during the design phase and continues throughout each step in the product design process.  Parts commonality, simplified assembly and design for manufacturing (DFM) are some of the tools and approaches we use to provide manufacturing assistance to our clients.

Typical projects in this area include:

Manufacturing Analysis of a Booster Water Heater
Cost Reduction in Ice Cream Manufacturing
Design of a Family of Commercial Heating Boiler

Materials

Proper selection and use of materials in product design is critical to product life, profitability of the product and customer satisfaction.  Material selection criteria of often conflicting, and careful thought is needed to develop a screening approach that takes all of the key factors into account.

Materials testing and evaluation are important steps in identifying why parts have failed and how the material composition or processing steps can be modified to obtain the desired improvement.

The Engineering Services team has access to state-of-the-art materials testing facilities and experts to help you select and implement the right materials for your design objectives.

Typical projects in this area include:

Burner Casting Failure Analysis Corrosion Inhibitors for Absorption Chillers

Other Services

The Engineering Services team provides consulting services in other areas such as reliability assessment, life testing, and codes and standards to support our product development work.

We help clients reduce warranty costs by assessing the reliability of their products and predicting the mean time to failure for mission-critical parts.  We use a variety of tools for this work including reliability analysis software, laboratory life testing, and analysis of existing warranty data.

Our team is familiar with a variety of codes and standards that pertain to products such as UL, CSA, ASME, CSD, CE and others.  We can evaluate products for their compliance with pertinent standards and recommend design changes as needed.
