AMTI’s instrumented
treadmills for gait and human performance research have a unique three belt design
for gait reaction force separation.
Three separate belts, each equipped with a multi component force
platform isolate the reaction forces under both feet during walking and
running gait. Unlike simple lateral
belt arrangements, reaction force isolation is not compromised by medial
cross over of the feet during the gate cycle.
This belt arrangement is accomplished by using a special belt design
with small belt pulleys on the abutting ends of the belts. This design gives a belt separation less
then 0.25 inches, which results in an unnoticeable perturbation during gait.
